Primary Research Project

The Primary Research Project - Introduction

The Primary Research Project is a stimulating Literacy Program.  The wide range of topics helps develop literacy accross the whole curriculum.  The Primary Research Project helps develop:

  • reading skills
  • interpretation and analysis skills
  • investigative skills
  • IT skills

Designed by teachers for teachers, this project differs from other national tests because:-

  • Students see it as a challenge and fun rather than a test.
  • It requires students to use resources rather than recall facts.
  • It assesses key research, analytical and interpretive skills, not memory.
  • There are no disruptions to timetables and no room set up.
  • Teachers choose when they do the competition anytime over a two week period.

The Primary Research Project also provides valid statistics showing how your students perform against national averages in key areas.

This program aims to reward the inquiring minds of younger students and provide them with a challenge that will stimulate them to develop their research skills.  The types of resources which can be used by students include:-

  • Atlases
  • Dictionaries
  • Encyclopedias
  • The Internet
  • Libraries

The program is designed to be accessible to the full range of students so that all participants gain a sense of achievement.  The Primary Research Project covers a range of topics from all key learning areas so that it provides a balanced approach to the curriculum.

The Primary Research Project is not just a memory test.  The project requires students to spend up to a maximum of four hours researching the answers to 40 multiple choice questions.
