An immersive look at Asian history and geography

The Asia Wise Competition is designed to align closely with history and geography classes at lower (yrs 7 & 8) and upper (yrs 9 & 10) levels - helping teachers develop critical knowledge, activate research skills, and engage classrooms in lively discussion.

Designed by teachers to teach

Unlike most national competitions, Asia Wise is geared for engagement, development and fun - it's not just a scored test. Investigative skills are critical to the history and geography curriculum, and Asia Wise fosters research, analysis and interpretation - more than simply recalling facts.

How it works

1. Register - Once you register, you'll have access to the teacher admin page. This lets you choose which programs you wish to register for and nominate how many students you'd like in each competition. 
2. Make payment - Send the printable invoice along with payment to the Giant Classroom address in your country.
3. Activate - Once we've received your payment, we'll activate your account, allowing your students to access questions and resources.
4. Participate - The test comprises 50 multiple choice questions, requiring students to make use of all resources available in the library.
5. Get feedback - Students can electronically submit their answers to see how they performed against national averages.

Frequently asked questions

• What grades is the competition for? - There are separate programs for lower (Aus years 7 & 8 - NZ 8 & 9) and upper (Aus years 9 & 10 - NZ 10 & 11).
• When is registration due? - July 1 2010
• When can we participate? - Anytime between August 9 and August 20
• How much does it cost? - In Australia, the Asia Wise Competition is $6 per student, plus a one off school admin fee of $30. New Zealand prices are as above plus $1 per event.
• How do schools use the Asia Wise Competition? - Powerful applications seen by schools include:
  • Introduction to Asian studies - a great scene-setter as they prepare to study Asia
  • Capstone for existing units - a break, and stimulation for deeper understanding
  • Stand alone program - augment an identified lack of Asian content in our syllabus
